Offa's Dyke continues over the fields to the east of Montgomery to reach Pound House providing a long stretch of almost level walking with the dyke at various heights.
The route is a mix of field paths, quiet lanes and woodland, providing views over the valley of the Severn, with the connection to Welshpool made by the Montgomery Canal, now part of a large network known as the Shropshire Union. By Buttington Bridge the path has covered well over 100 miles. Note how much trees have played a major role in the passing landscape. Woodland often lines the dyke to say nothing of miles of hawthorn that mark out field boundaries. Go to Walk 9. |
