After leaving Hay, there is a pleasant section of level walking alongside the Wye and through farmland before OD path takes to the hills again with a long steady climb. A crossing of the eastern edge of the Little Mountain, Disgwy Hill and Hergest Ridge (enshrined in music by Mike Oldfield) offers fine views.
There is excellent walking throughout now, firm underfoot and a feeling of airy freedom comes from the grassy moorland. The gradients are not demanding, making this an easy if long day's walk. Go to Walk 5. |
