Alchemy - Programme Notes
Alchemy has been written for string quartet, assorted percussion, especially the mystical Tibetan singing bowls, plus double or electric bass. The music is a combination of opposites, meditative moods contrasting with earthly rhythms.
Alchemy makes sense as a psychological process. Constituents are mixed and heated in the human vessel, those constituents being such things as love, anguish, hope, anger, even boredom, with a dash of risk and passion. The process is of birth, growth, decay, death and transformation.
Everything contained in this music is described in The Final Score.
